The Friends of Friedrichshafen were pleased to honor Peoria residents Wayne and Joyce Oberlander for their longstanding relationship with and service to our youth exchange.

“The Oberlanders were have been involved with our youth exchange since 1981, when they first hosted students from Peoria’s German sister city,” said Friends of Friedrichshafen President Karen Robb. “Even more importantly, the Oberlanders have invited our guests to their Lake Bloomington property every host year since. That is more than 25 years of beach parties for our German friends, and it is one of the highlights of our guests’ experience in the Peoria area.”

The Oberlanders recalled some of the great fun they’ve had with the hundreds of students they’ve met over the years. They thanked FOF for continuing its strong exchange, as well as the many family members who have helped with the beach parties throughout the years.

On hand to congratulate the Oberlanders were the Peoria Sister City Commission Chairman Rex Linder, immediate past chairman Mike Quine, the Friends of Friedrichshafen board of directors and approximately 40 more friends and family members. The Oberlanders received a plaque to commemorate their contribution, which they plan to display at their Lake Bloomington property.
